Nancy Pon was born in small town Saskatchewan. She obtained her Engineering degree at the UofS and then visited China in an effort to discover her roots. While there, she decided to make Shanghai her home, and she has since become one of the most sought after media, marketting and planning gurus in China. The Hanlon Centre was excited to bring Ms. Pon back to the UofS so that she could speak to students about making a business for yourself in China. Her two seminars, "6 Insights into China", and "Extraordinary out of the Ordinary", introduced students to the realities of business in China, the importance of keeping your face out there while maintaining a good reputation, and the importance of staying on top of the fast paced Chinese business world.
Students from accross campus came to take in Ms. Pon's valuable insights. She emphasized that China has a wealth of opportunities for all entrepeneurs young and old. As an individual who grew up in Turtleford Saskatchewan, Ms. Pon explained how unexpected her success is, but that it goes to show just how much one can accomplish when opportunity presents itself, and one puts in the effort. After seeing both presentations, Carolyn Aziz remarked, "Ms. Pon reminds us that we can accomplish whatever we put our minds to, but more than that she was actually able to explain to us the steps in achieving that vision."
Nancy Pon was is of the many Guest Speakers on International Business topics that the Hanlon Centre will be bringing to the University. Keep watching the Hanlon Centre website for other upcoming speakers.
