Edwards Tax Program Goes Electronic
Release Date : April 17, 2014
The Volunteer Tax Program at the Edwards School of Business helped local seniors file their taxes online this year – a first during this 26th year of the program.
“The community appreciates the services and our students enjoy the time they spend with the individuals,” says organizer Nathalie Johnstone. “This year we went electronic and had to put in a lot of preparation with computers and printers.”
She says seniors often have difficulty filing online, and the assistance from fourth year Edwards students has already received positive feedback.
“This is such a wonderful program that really meets our clients’ needs,” says a representative of the Saskatchewan Abilities Council, adding that the students provided “superb service in a professional manner.”
The students attended several sessions at various locations in Saskatoon to prepare returns this tax season. This year’s successes include:
- 736 returns prepared
- 150 students volunteered 490 hours
- 11 faculty members volunteered 36 hours
- 70 Chartered Accountants volunteered 210 hours
- 191 volunteer coordination hours by Nathalie Johnstone
Congratulations to the Edwards and local accounting community for volunteering a total of 927 hours!
