Womentorship Seminar IV on Resiliency

Release Date : May 01, 2012

The fourth Betty-Ann Heggie Womentorship Development Seminar, held last Thursday, April 12th at Prairieland Hall, focused on Resiliency.  Author Heather Kuttai spoke on her experiences as a leader, administrator, coach, professional athlete and mother. Kuttai has been spinal cord injured and a wheelchair user for over three decades.

Her first book, Maternity Rolls: Pregnancy, Childbirth, and Disability, was short-listed for a Saskatchewan Book Award and she is currently writing another based on the patient experience.

“Heather Kuttai was a remarkable speaker and left quite an impression on members of our Womentorship Program,” says Maryann Ross, Career Development Manager of Edwards Career Services and Co-ordinator of the Womentorship Program. “Her story is an inspiring example of resiliency and we were so pleased to have her speak.”

Lois Miller, Womentor and Protégé with the program, found the session both motivating and moving. “Kuttai encouraged us to question our acceptance of limitations, to confront our fears and to expect hard work to achieve our goals,” she says. “Rarely have I heard a speaker whose story is so riven with pain and yet speaks from a profound space of peace and gratitude.”

The final Womentorship event of the 2011/2012 year will be held in early June. For information on becoming a Womentor or Protégé for 2012/2013, contact Maryann Ross at ross@edwards.usask.ca or 306.966.2586.
