Program Overview

Research shows that nearly every successful woman will say that she benefited from mentorship while navigating the labyrinth of her career. Thanks to Betty-Ann Heggie’s generous financial support and donated time, the Womentorship program helps women find personal and professional fulfillment while helping companies keep women actively engaged in their organizations.

The Womentorship program partners Proteges - all ages and stages - with Womentors who have 15+ years of professional experience. The mentoring relationship grows over personal meetings and networking and professional development seminars throughout the year.

Built on the pillars of Presence, Belonging and Resilience identified in the McKinsey study Centered Leadership: How Talented Women Thrive, the Womentorship program aims to create an environment where women support each other and grow together.

More Information

This program is offered through a blended delivery method with virtual delivery occurring through Zoom and in-person delivery occurring at K W Nasser Centre. All learning materials are provided digitally on Canvas. In order to use Zoom, participants must have access to a computer with speakers, a microphone, and a webcam. Both delivery methods include instructor facilitation, small group exercises, large group discussions, whiteboarding, interactive learning, networking and ample breaks and opportunities for questions and discussions. Attendance is mandatory for the kick-off session. For In-Person delivery, participants will be required to bring a laptop/digital device to access all learning materials during the program. Breakfast and refreshments will be provided. Please read our COVID-19 information page for expectations and how to prepare for your program.

How to Join

The Betty-Ann Heggie Womentorship program runs once a year. If you are interested in participating in the 2021-2022 program year, please fill our our application forms below. 

  • Proteges

    Protege Application Form


    Space in the program is limited. Only 25 Proteges are accepted into the program each year, so apply early! You will be notified with who you have been matched. Attendance is mandatory at the Kickoff Event as this will be the first time you meet your Womentor. Please ensure you are available on this date. 

    Past participants are invited and welcome to participate in the professional development sessions at a cost of $100/session. Please send us an email to womentorship@edwards.usask.ca to let us know you are interested in this opportunity.


    Program Fees

    Annual Protege program fee is $500 + GST.

    Protege Scholarships are Available!


    Not-For-Profit Organizations

    Sponsored memberships are available for Proteges currently employed in the not-for-profit sector with a registered charity. If you wish to be considered for one of the sponsored memberships, please submit a letter of interest with your completed application form to womentorship@edwards.usask.ca. Your letter of interest must indicate how your experience and professional development within the Womentorship Program will benefit both yourself and your organization.


    Applying without organizational funding?

    Sponsored seats for the program are available for participants who is applying without organizational funding. If you wish to be considered for this spot, please submit a letter of interest with your completed application form to womentorship@edwards.usask.ca. Your letter of interest should indicate how you will benefit from the experience and professional development within the Womentorship Program. 

    Additional $200 scholarships are available for applicants applying without organizational funding. Please contact us at womentorship@edwards.usask.ca for more information.

    Application Process

    After all applications are received, each application will be reviewed individually as part of the matching process. Once a match is finalized, we will notify you. Our goal is to find a well-suited match for everyone accepted into the program and, unfortunately, an appropriate match may not be available for everyone who applies. Edwards will contact you to confirm whether you have been matched with a Protege. Attendance is mandatory at the Kickoff Event on as this will be the first time you meet your Protege. Please ensure you are available on this date. 

    For the success of this program, it is important that you commit the time and make yourself readily available to attend the majority of our workshops, and that Protégés initiate contact with their Womentor.


    Program fees

    There is no program fees for Womentors who contribute their time and expertise to mentor others.

Instructor Profiles

Founder and Donor: Betty-Ann Heggie

Betty-Ann Heggie, a widely recognized thought leader in gender dynamics is published in Harvard Business review, Inc. Magazine, Apple News, Huffington Post and The Good Men Project . An award-winning speaker, author and mentor, she is also a corporate director, philanthropist and a former Senior Vice-President with PotashCorp (now Nutrien), the world’s largest fertilizer supplier.

During her corporate career she was twice named the top investor relations person in Canada, once by her clients and once by her peers and was subsequently inducted into Canada’s Top 100 Most Powerful Women Hall of Fame. In 2017 Betty-Ann was inducted into the Saskatchewan Business Hall of Fame and in 2015 she was given the Trailblazer Award from Women in Mining Canada and named one of the 100 Global Inspirational Women in Mining. Other awards include: the Queen’s Golden Jubilee Medal, the YWCA Lifetime Achievement Award, the University of Saskatchewan Alumni Mentorship Award and the Stevie Award for “Women Helping Women”.

Betty-Ann currently serves as a director for TIFF, where she Chairs the Philanthropy Committee and has also been on the boards of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce, the Saskatoon Regional Economic Development Authority Inc., the Canadian Wheat Board, Allana Potash and MITACS. She was the founding chair of the Saskatchewan Chapter of the Institute of Corporate Directors. Her ground-breaking Womentorship program at her alma mater, the University of Saskatchewan, has had more than 1800 women participate in the program’s networking events, professional development and its annual women’s film festival. The program also developed and hosted a Canadian mentorship experience for women from Afghanistan.

Lead Facilitator: Rachelle Brockman, BComm, MBA 

Principal of Eureka Experience, Rachelle is an experienced, award-winning educator, a passionate artist and an enthusiastic entrepreneur. She inspires people, teams and organizations to ‘get it done’ in a passionate, productive way.  She digs down to core issues and provides tangible tools for leaders and teams to move forward by practicing courageous communication. 

Rachelle holds a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) and Bachelor of Commerce (B.Comm).  Rachelle is also a Certified Facilitator of the Myers-Briggs Typology Indicator (MBTI) a FOCCUS (Facilitating Open Couple Communication, Understanding and Study) Facilitator and a Certified Facilitator of the Canadian It’s Your Move youth program.

Rachelle has a diverse work history that includes, but is not limited to, being an award-winning University Assistant Professor for over a decade at the Edwards School of Business, a Banker and a ‘Carnie’ at the Royal Easter Exhibition in Sydney Australia. 

Cancellation

University of Saskatchewan's liability is limited to reimbursement of paid tuition fees.

Cancellations received at least five (5) business days in advance of the program commencement date will receive a full refund. Cancellations received less than five (5) business days prior to the program commencement date will be subject to a $100 administration fee. Cancellations received less than two (2) business days prior to the program commencement date will be subject to full program tuition cost.

Non-attendance will incur full program tuition cost.

Program Transfers

One program transfer will be permitted without penalty if the cancellation request is received more than five (5) business days prior to the program start date. Program transfers within five (5) business days of the program start date will be subject to a $100 administration fee.

Alternate program transfers may be approved dependent on program availability. Transfer requests must be scheduled within six (6) months of the initial purchase.

Applicants will be responsible for any price difference in program fees at the time of the request. Each subsequent transfer request will be subject to $100 administration fee.
