Biography

Dr. Amarjit Gill has been teaching full-time for the last 20 years at the undergraduate and graduate levels in the areas of corporate finance, risk and insurance, entrepreneurial finance, security analysis and investments, and personal finance. The Student Union of the University of Saskatchewan nominated him four times for the Teaching Excellence Award over the last seven years. 

Dr. Gill worked as a manager in the Canadian financial management and service sectors for over 20 years. For the last 18 years, Dr. Gill has served on dissertation committees in corporate finance. He has successfully supervised/co-supervised two undergraduate students and seven Ph.D. students. In addition, he serves as an external examiner for Ph.D. degree programs, and for the last 18 years, he has reviewed research papers for finance and management journals.  

Dr. Gill has published research papers in high-quality peer-reviewed and ranked journals, including International Journal of Managerial Finance (Emerald Publishing); International Journal of Finance & Economics (Wiley and Sons); International Journal of Emerging Markets (Emerald Publishing); Emerging Markets Review (Elsevier); International Journal of Business and Economics (Feng Chia University); Managerial Finance Journal (Emerald Publishing); International Journal of Accounting and Finance (InderScience Publishers); International Journal of Contemporary Hospitality Management (Emerald Publishing); and International Journal of Corporate Governance (InderScience Publishers). His research papers have been cited over 7,250 times.

 Dr. Gill has presented at many conferences. On September 24, 2021, he delivered an invited speech on "Contemporary issues for small business firms," One Day International Conference on Contemporary Issues in Modern Times, Hansraj College, University of Delhi, India. On July 24, 2021, he delivered the keynote address at the International Conference on Contemporary Issues in Sustainable Management Practices & Technology Innovation, Sri Guru Hari Singh College, Haryana, India.

 Dr. Gill has received the three best paper awards. In 2021, he received the Best Paper Award for the research paper entitled "Impact of family control on bank financing and the cost of debt: Evidence from Canadian survey data" at the International Conference on Contemporary Issues in Sustainable Management Practices & Technology Innovation, Sri Guru Hari Singh College, Haryana, India. In 2019, he received the Best Paper award from the Journal of Agribusiness in Developing and Emerging Economies (Emerald Publishing) for the research paper entitled "Religious beliefs and the promotion of socially responsible entrepreneurship in the Indian agribusiness industry." In addition, he received the best paper award for the research paper entitled "Social capital of non-resident family members and small business financing: Evidence from an Indian state" at the 11th Asian Business Research Conference, 26-27 December 2014. His research studies in finance focus on capital structure, family control, cost of capital, working capital management, venture capital, new venture financing, investors' investment behaviour, financial policy of the firm, corporate governance, mergers and acquisitions, risk and insurance, personal finance, and firm performance.
